Henry Redmore (1820-1887)
Henry Redmore is undoubtably one of Britain's finest marine painters. Many of Redmore's artworks are of shipping off the Yorkshire coast and in the ports of Scarborough and Whitby. Much of his output is of Dutch shipping, suggesting he spent some time on the continent, some suggest Holland and Germany. Wherever, what is for sure he was a highly accomplished painter of marine subjects.
Circa: 1860.
This painting is a good example of Redmore's work, combining all the elements his paintings are known for. Presented in a gilt frame and ready to hang. Signed and dated H Redmore 1878, lower left.
